Sergei Sergeyevich Bodrov (Russian: Sergéi Sergéevich Bodróv; December 27, 1971 – September 20, 2002), also known as Sergei Bodrov, Jr. was a Russian actor who had lead roles in the films Brother, Prisoner of the Mountains, The Stringer and Brother 2. He was the son of the Russian playwright, actor, director and producer Sergei Bodrov. He was killed in the Kolka-Karmadon rock ice slide at the end of the second day of shooting of his film The Messenger.
He discusses his first meeting with Jean-Luc Godard, the director’s working process, his dream of being a boxer, and his influences among many other topics. A great window to Belmondo.
‘This is England’ was the title under which Humphrey Jennings’s 10-minute paean to beleaguered but indomitable British pluck, ‘The Heart of Britain’, was presented in the US in 1941. After showing the wreckage of Coventry and life in the shadow of the Blitz, the narration forecast that ‘the Nazis will learn, once and for all, that no one with impunity troubles the heart of Britain’. As the opening montage of Shane Meadows’s new film makes clear, the heart of Britain was troubled in 1983.
