Smart and Beautiful - Julyetta, Bavarian Jewel

By UAN

In the beginning, I never thought that I could make it to work as a model and to earn money with it because I grew up in a small Bavarian city where you have fewer requests and job offers as in the big cities. Thus, I always thought to be too curvy for modeling, wearing a size S/M.

Can you tell us about your roots, about growing up?
I grew up with my mother and grandparents on a small farm in Bavaria, Germany. I had a very protected and wonderful childhood surrounded by nature and animals. I am very proud of my roots and my typical Bavarian accent, even if people sometimes make jokes about it.

What was your childhood / teenage dream? What did you wanna to become?
Ever since I was a child I always wanted to become a singer or an actress. I started singing, acting and dancing very early and always had a great passion for it. But when I started modeling it became my favorite type of art.

Any idols during the teenage period?
I remember that my idol was always the singer Shakira. My whole teenage room was covered with posters of her. I liked her curves and her impressive voice.

When did you start with modeling? Can you recall your first photo session?
I had my first shooting by the age of 14 and I was wearing a traditional Bavarian dress. When I saw myself on the pictures, I wanted to do it again as soon as possible and so I started shooting regularly.
As an inexperienced model, you always have to take care of yourself. Before I became of age, my mother always accompanied me to shootings and beauty contests and made sure that the contracts or offers were legit.
In the beginning, I never thought that I could make it to work as a model and to earn money with it because I grew up in a small Bavarian city where you have fewer requests and job offers as in the big cities. Thus, I always thought to be too curvy for modeling, wearing a size S/M.
But when I moved to Frankfurt for my studies, I started to become self-employed and my dream came true. Since then I am working regularly as a model and could always arrange it with my Master studies. Nevertheless, the university was always prioritized because you cannot be a model forever.

Have you worked with some modeling agency's or you are your own boss?
I am working with some German and Italian model agencies because they offer most of the commercial bookings. But 80 % of my jobs I get by self-marketing on my homepage, model pages, and social media. It is a lot of work to promote yourself but for doing this job it is absolutely worth it. I enjoy being my own boss because I love to organize myself and to divide my time as I like it.

Can you tell us about your favorite place for a photo session /so far/?
I have done shootings in a lot of special and sometimes also creepy places. I had many shootings in wonderful hotels or lodges. Among the best locations were an abandoned paper factory, a deserted hotel, and the Main Tower in Frankfurt am Main, which is 656 feet high. Another special place was a hospital in Italy that has been closed for already 50 years. During the shooting, we heard strange sounds which made the shooting even more enthralling. To put it in a nutshell, I prefer shooting in lost places – of course only with applied permission.

What would be your advice to young girls who would like to start modeling career?
Never go to a shooting alone if you are underage or if you have no experience! Ask the photographer if it is okay to bring somebody and always sign a contract. If you have doubts, call him before the shooting. And if you still feel insecure, cancel it in time and look for someone else you trust.
If you have no experience in makeup, ask the photographer to book a make-up artist or bring one by yourself.
If you find a good agency, it will organize all that for you, but take care that it is a serious one or that it belongs to the VELMA agencies.
Furthermore, I encourage all the aspiring models to believe in themselves because everyone is beautiful. Even if the others tell you that you cannot make it, you can achieve everything you want if you only work hard enough.

What kind of art, in general, do you like?
I love paintings but my preferred type of art is photography.
For me, the most exciting aspect of modeling and photography is the fact that you can create masterpieces of art “only” with light, technique, outfits, and makeup in a small amount of time. These results last forever and you will never get older on the pictures, even if you age in real life. ;) Moreover, you can reinvent yourself in every shooting because in one moment you can be the nice girl next door and in the next moment, you can be a vamp.

Any hobbies?
My favorite hobby is traveling, so most of the money I gain with modeling I spend on traveling and of course for my university education.
Furthermore, I like shopping, reading, and going to the movies. I also enjoy singing and dancing and in the winter season I am skiing and snowboarding a lot. But my preferred “hobby” is to spend time with my family, especially with my grandmother and friends because life is so short.

Plans for 2017?
The year 2017 already started perfect for me, because I graduated in my Master studies. At the moment, I am traveling a lot and I am trying to see Europe and afterward, I want to explore Asia and America. By the end of the year, I will start a ‘real’ job, but I will continue modeling of course.
