Courtney Paige - Artsy and Eclectic

I do all kinds of art. Acrylic painting, oil painting, watercolor painting, welding, ceramics, woodworking, oil pastels, paper sculptures, scale projects, modeling, poetry, children's illustration, glass blowing, jewelry making..... You name it I probably know how to do it.
I am working towards publishing a children's illustration book by December.
Right now I am competing to be the cover model for Inked Magazine.

1. Can you tell us about your roots, about growing up?
I was born in Mesa, Arizona. I am an Army brat so I have lived all over Arizona. I also have lived in Colorado and California.

I lived in Mesa, Yuma, Colorado Springs,  Apache Junction, Chandler, Avondale, Monterey Bay, Flagstaff, Rim Rock, Prescott, Tempe and currently in Mesa again.

2. What was your childhood / teenage dream? What did you wanna to become?

I heard stories from when I was a child that I told everyone I wanted to be a vegetarian veterinarian. I think I mostly liked the sound of it. As a teenager and into early adulthood I knew I wanted to do something with art. I went to school for three years for art and psych. I have a semester left until I get my BA in art education to be a high school art teacher.

3. Any idols during the teenage period?

I didn't have any pop culture idols growing up. I did have literary idols though. My senior year of high school I took holocaust literature. Elie Wiesel's book Night moved me. It inspired a lot of my own writings.

4. When did you start with modeling? Can you recall your first photo session?

I started modeling in college when I was 19. My first photo session was in a classmates yard. She was working on her senior project, which was a sustainable clothing line, and needed people to showcase the outfits.

5. Alternative model. Do you consider yourself as an Alt model?

I consider myself an eclectic model. I feel like I can have an edgy look, but I can also be refined and formal. I think to be a good model you need to be able to fit any category.

6. First tattoo. What was the feeling?

My first tattoo was the treble clef on my left ribs. It is a memorial tattoo for my grandfather. It was intense. Very painful, but I was able to sit for 3 hours and get it done.

7.  How many tattoos do you have and their meaning?

I have 33 tattoos. That includes all the ones on my arm since they were done individually. Once its a complete sleeve I will count it as one. All the flowers on my upper left arm represent the national flowers of mt heritage. The double infinity on my bicep is for my mom. We always used to say "love you to infinity and beyond" when we got off the phone. I have a lot of things that represent Arizona on my left arm as well. A cactus bracelet, cowboy boot, cowgirl heart butt.
I have 2 memorial tattoos. One for my grandpa and one for a friend who committed suicide. For my friend I got a Celtic trinity knot, she always wanted to get it but never was able to. I got it with a black rose behind it. I have a tattoo for my daughter as well.

8. Any piercings?

I got my ears pierced when I was 3 months old. I had my belly button and nipples done but my body rejected the piercings.

9. You are into implied nude /nude art photos too. Can you explain to our reader's nude art from your point of view?

I think nude art is amazing. It can be classy, tasteful, and beautiful if done right. For me when I do nude photo shoots I am not making porn. I am showcasing my body in ways that don't always show my bits.

10. Favorite lingerie for a photo session?

My favorite lingerie session was working with Tim Fraim from Prescott. It was one I dubbed the theme 'Raven Queen' its a little edgy but beautiful.

11. What would be your advice to young girls who would like to start alt modeling career?

Do what YOU are comfortable with. Never let someone talk you into something you aren't ok with. If you are uncomfortable it will show in the photos. On your face and in your body language. Never go to photoshoots alone. Bring someone for your own safety. Always set up a general meeting with a new photographer, meet for coffee or a drink and talk about the photo shoot and what you both want to get out of it.

12. What kind of art, in general, do you like?

I do all kinds of art. Acrylic painting, oil painting, watercolor painting, welding, ceramics, woodworking, oil pastels, paper sculptures, scale projects, modeling, poetry, children's illustration, glass blowing, jewelry making..... You name it I probably know how to do it.

13. plans for the rest of 2018?

Right now I am competing to be the cover model for Inked Magazine. I am working towards publishing a children's illustration book by December. I would like to take a vacation to Salem, Ma. And hopefully, have a fun birthday in November... Mine are notoriously lame. But I want to change that this year.
